The Steadman Clinic's Athletic Training Fellowship

The Steadman Clinic offers a twelve month athletic training fellowship for certified athletic trainers. The fellowship program is a paid educational program that focuses on the athletic trainer's knowledge and skills to act as a physician extender in the clinical orthopaedic setting. The athletic trainer works directly with world renowned orthopaedic physicians and knowledgeable healthcare staff in the clinic, operating room, outreach venues and research institute. The twelve month training includes patient care in a busy orthopaedic clinic, covering a wide variety of sporting events, observation and surgical assisting in the operating room, active participation in educational lecture and labs, and research/publication opportunities through the Steadman Philippon Research Institute.

About The Athletic Training Fellowship

The Steadman Athletic Training Fellowship started in 1996 and is one of the oldest and most recognized athletic training fellowships in the nation. Since the program's inception over 70 athletic trainers have graduated from the program. Graduates from the program have careers in a variety of settings, with the majority acting as physician extenders. The fellowship program begins in July of each year and graduation is at the end of July the following year. Athletic training fellows will rotate with each of our physicians during the year, working alongside them in clinic. The fellowship also offers opportunity to observe and be trained to assist in the operating room. Other benefits of the program include; weekly lectures presented by nationally and internationally acclaimed researchers and physicians, unique sports coverage including skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, trail running, and work with US Olympic athletes, a season ski and golf pass, and health benefits. The program's educational components are geared directly towards athletic trainers that have a strong drive to increase their evaluation and diagnostic skills in orthopaedics. We look for candidates that take strong initiative to further their education with evidence based medicine along with professional growth in athletic training. Applicants are required to have a Master's degree with 1-2 years of certified experience (please visit the application requirements).

The program is overseen by the Fellowship Program Director, Brandie Martin MS, ATC, OTC and by the ATC Fellowship Medical Director Dr. Thomas O. Clanton.
